Made with square wire that is twisted, this 1/2-hard 14/20 yellow gold-filled wire features 16 twists per inch and performs exceptionally well when you need to bend the wire around corners and along curves. The wire is ideal for creating bangles, rings, cuff bracelets, and a myriad of components that embellish other findings. Simple hoops, bangles and other components take on a fresh, dynamic look when made using square wire. Metal that is 1/2-hard is partially work-hardened and will hold its shape under some stress; ideal for forming structures that will support other components. Keep in mind that hardness is changeable (by annealing or heat-hardening) and is relative among metal types (each temper will feel and handle differently from one metal to another). When finishing your pieces, also keep in mind that the harder the metal is, the brighter a finish it will take.
It is useful for head pins, jump rings, cuff and wire bracelets, neck wires, ear wires, earring posts, rivets. As you know, jewelry wire has as many uses as there are jewelers and designers who use it to achieve their vision; these suggested uses simply represent some of the more common applications of this metal weight.
Gold-filled materials allow you to design and fabricate using the desirable color of karat gold while preserving a more affordable price point than is possible with solid gold. Its economical cost allows a greater latitude for trying out new designs or creating lines of fashion jewelry items. If you polish this wire, use extra care to avoid damaging or removing the bonded surface layer of karat gold.
